How to get involved as a volunteer

You don’t have to be a member (though we would love to have you) to join in our activities, but you do need to register for them on Park Connect- Parks Victoria volunteer page.

Steps

1) Register an account with ParkConnect here.

2) If you plan on volunteering more than once with ParkConnect, you will require a Working With Children Check (WWCC). See further information on ParkConnect.

This is free for volunteers and once received, it must be added to your ParkConnect profile. You can apply for or renew your WWCC here.

3) Once these steps are complete, you can readily search our upcoming activities on ParkConnect. Visit the Volunteering Page and type either:

  • Group Name: “Friends of dandenong valley parklands”

  • Park: “Dandenong Valley Parklands”

Activity details are listed including: date and time, meeting point, event duration, leader contact name and phone number, and what to bring.

If you would like more information on a specific event or can’t find us on the day, you can ring the Activity Leader and they will be able to direct you.

What to wear or bring on the day

You need to be prepared as you will likely get dirty, and possibly wet, cold, or hot, sunburnt and thirsty- depending on Melbourne’s weather!

  • Water bottle

  • Sun hat or beanie - weather dependent

  • Sunscreen - remember to put on before you start

  • Long sleeve shirts and pants - can help protect you from itchy grasses, thorns or scratchy leaves

  • Sturdy footwear (sometimes gumboots as it can get wet!)
